LAVA OBJECTS

Lava Objects was born from the desire to experiment with the hands, almost naive and playful way, with the sole intention of enjoying and exploring. My name is Laura Aguilar, I am from Costa Rica, designer, I live in Barcelona and I am a creator of Lava Objects.

In the summers of 2016 I moved to Barcelona, a period of transition and evolution both personally and professionally. At that time a series of eventualities marked the north, I found a material that had never worked: cement and colored pigments. It also coincided that I had at my disposal an ideal space to explore these materials, a space that "gave me total freedom" to experiment and understand cement, to dirty a lot, to make mistakes, to spend many hours working and learning the technique. Without a doubt Lava Objects would not be the same without the Sants workshop where everything came up.

Through these trials the first designs of objects arose, never any the same, each piece had and has its personality due to the variability of the material.

I like to treat the material as what has never been, think outside the box, take it out of a preconceived context, the antagonistic to: rough, which we are used to; I like to give life to the material with softer and delicate characteristics, transforming it into everyday objects without losing its raw essence.

 This is how Lava Objects was born, in a space and circumstances where everything was new, little by little new collections, new techniques are emerging, always wishing to go further, to grow without losing that intimacy between the hands and the material which is so gratifying.
